Reading List

All of the books in this section are excellent resources for developing ACT level reading comprehension skills as well as educating students (and to a certain degree parents) with knowledge that can lead to success in the real world. Knowledge is power and reading is the tool that helps provide that power. By clicking on the book title, you will find more detailed information about the book including, in most cases, a video clip discussing the book selection in more detail. Often parents and students will ask what books would be the best to start with. Below is a TOP THREE for three different categories. Enjoy!

Top Three Recommendations for preparing for the ACT:

  1. Freakonomics
  2. Outliers
  3. The 10 Big Lies about America

Top Three Recommendations for parents to read BEFORE student makes a college decision:

  1. Higher Education?
  2. Crazy U
  3. The Dumbest Generation

Top Three Recommendations for students to read before going to college:

  1. The Millionaire Next Door
  2. Rich Dad Poor Dad
  3. The Total Money Makeover

Note: The number one reason students drop out of college is they run out of money. Colleges don’t provide true financial education. Those three books will provide a solid foundation. Parents, keep in mind that over 40% of people in the 20s (many being college graduates) move back home and live with their parents because of lack of money. Those three books will help avoid that scenario.

The following books are also excellent reads for developing comprehension as well as gaining some interesting insights into a variety of topics.
